How fast should it be?

The engine runs on a dedicated always-on server, so there’s no waiting for it to wake up — documents format in a few seconds, whether you’re the first person here today or the hundredth. We used to run on a free tier that slept after 15 minutes of inactivity; we pay for a proper instance now precisely so you don’t have to wait for it.

The one time you might catch a delay is right after we ship an update, when the engine restarts for about a minute. The badge above tells you honestly when that’s happening.
